Line managers are the best-placed people to spot changes in team members in real time and intervene when they have the confidence and competence. By the time a Mental Health First Aider or HR become aware of a situation it might have grown in severity. This is why line managers make the best first line of defence against health related sickness absence. The advantages managers have over other wellbeing practitioners isuch as Mental Health First Aiders in the business are their daily proximity to the team member and their pre-exisiting relationship and (hopefully trust) A confident and competent line manager can intervene as soon as they're confident something is amiss and engage their team member in a supportive conversation. Most other internal health support pratitioners and external ones such as EAP counsellors do not have the benefit of this daily exposure to and pre-existing relationshp with individuals. Therefore, they can only ever act on a reactive basis. And whilst line managers still need to be reactive in that they must wait until they witness some form of change, they can do what's second best to prevention, and aim for early intervention, potentially lessening the disruption to the team members' quality of life. With this in mind, we have created the 'Managers Support-Conversation Accelerator' to give line managers the skills, confidence and competence to be able to adopt an early-intervention approach to struggling team members. After an initial 2-hour online workshop which teaches your line managers how to interpret signs of struggle through body language and spoken/written communications (both online and offline) they will enter into a 90 day coaching phase where they will be coached by a mental health trainer and acting/body language coach through various live-acted scenarios to give them exposure to a wide variety of situations to build their conversational approach around. This programme gives your line managers everything they need to take an early-intervention approach to supporting struggling team members in order to maintain quality of life, engagement, productivity and team absence levels.
